What is Musandam ?

Musandam is a peninsula at the northern tip of Arabia, separated from the UAE mainland and forming an exclave of Oman. Lonely Planet describes it as the “Norway of Arabia” for its limestone fjords, locally called khors, some reaching 400 meters deep. Musandam Oman has two main destinations: Khasab Musandam and Dibba Musandam.

Khasab is the capital of Oman’s Musandam region, about 4 hours from Dubai through the Hajar mountains, deep inside the fjord. You’ll cruise to Telegraph Island, swim in sheltered bays, and most days see dolphins.

Dibba sits on the eastern coast of Musandam, just past Fujairah. The drive is shorter, about 2.5 hours from Dubai via the WAM border. The cruise offers banana boat, kayak, snorkeling stops, and lunch on deck. It’s the better pick if you’re traveling with young kids or families.

What Our Guests Say

4.9 / 5 – 150+ verified reviews

We did the full-day Khasab cruise as a family of five and it was honestly the best day trip we’ve done from Dubai. The boat stopped right next to a pod of dolphins for almost ten minutes — the kids couldn’t believe it. Lunch on deck was simple but tasted great after a morning of swimming. The crew kept checking on us the whole day without being overbearing about it. Already recommended it to friends.

Khasab Dhow Cruise

Booked the overnight cruise for my husband’s birthday and it completely delivered. We anchored in this narrow fjord just as the sun went down, and by 9pm the sky was full of stars with zero light pollution. Dinner was grilled fish caught earlier that day. Cabins are basic, not luxury, but you’re not really there for the room — you’re there for the silence and the view. Already looking at dates to go back.

Overnight Dhow Cruise

Did the Dibba cruise since the drive from Dubai is shorter than going to Khasab Musandam. They sorted the Oman visa for us before we even arrived at the border, so there was zero stress about paperwork. The snorkeling stop near Lima Rock was the highlight — saw way more fishes than we expected. Good value for a half-day trip, and the crew spoke both English and Arabic which made communication easy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — both Khasab and Dibba now require an Oman visa for entry, following a recent change in border policy. Most nationalities can get a visa on arrival at the border. Some nationalities need to arrange their visa in advance before traveling. We confirm the exact requirement for your passport when you book, so there are no surprises at the border. See our full Musandam visa guide →

It depends on which side you’re visiting. For Khasab, both your passport and Emirates ID (if you’re a UAE resident) need at least 90 days of validity remaining. For Dibba, your passport needs at least 6 months of validity, though your Emirates ID only needs 7 days. We check your documents against the right requirement when you book. Full details in our visa guide →

Khasab is the capital of Musandam, Oman — accessed from Dubai via the Al Dara border crossing, about 4 hours by road. Dibba is Musandam’s Fujairah-side entry point via the WAM border, just 2.5 hours from Dubai. Both now require an Oman visa, but Khasab’s fjords run deeper and suit overnight stays, while Dibba is quicker and better for a single day from the UAE. Read our full Khasab vs Dibba comparison →

Musandam, Oman is approximately 130 km from Dubai by road. The drive to Khasab Musandam takes 3.5 to 4 hours via the Al Dara border crossing. The Dibba entry point, via the WAM border, is closer — approximately 2.5 hours from Dubai or just 30 minutes from Fujairah.

Yes — most Musandam tours are family-friendly. The Khasab full-day dhow cruise and the Dibba day cruise are particularly popular with families, and we recommend the half-day cruise for younger children or families with toddlers. Please mention children when booking so we can confirm the most suitable tour for your group.

Yes — you’re welcome to drive your own vehicle to Musandam. The car must be registered in your name, or the registered owner needs to be present at the border. You’ll also need Oman vehicle insurance, and the car can’t be bank-financed or under a mortgage. At Al Dara border (for Khasab), insurance can be arranged on the spot. At the WAM border (for Dibba), there’s no insurance office, so you’ll need to sort Oman insurance before you travel.
