A Day in the Khasab Fjords
Khasab sits where the Hajar Mountains drop into the sea. The boat heads into Khor Ash Sham, a 17-kilometre fjord flanked by limestone walls. Spinner dolphins and humpback dolphins are common at the entrance. En route the dhow passes the fishing villages of Nadafi, Qanaha, Maqlab and Sham, accessible only by boat.
The first stop is Telegraph Island, site of the British relay station built in 1864 for the first submarine telegraph cable. Clear water with butterfly fish, groupers and coral. Seebi Island follows in the afternoon, the water here is calm, shallow and sheltered, with more fish and coral than Telegraph Island. Lunch comes out on deck between the two stops. AED 170 covers the full day including all equipment and lunch.

Khasab Musandam Cruise Itinerary
09:30 AM — Dockside at Khasab Port
Your dhow and crew are ready at the dock. Board when you arrive, get settled on deck and the crew will serve Arabic coffee, tea, fresh fruits and soft drinks while the boat prepares to depart.
10:00 AM — Dhow Departs into Khor Sham
The dhow leaves Khasab port and turns into Khor Sham. Limestone walls rise on both sides as the boat moves deeper into the fjord and the water changes colour the further in you go.
10:45 AM — Dolphin Watching
Spinner dolphins and humpback dolphins are both common in these waters. The crew cuts the engine when they appear and most groups see them at close range. The boat waits before continuing deeper into the fjord.
11:30 AM — Telegraph Island
The dhow anchors at Telegraph Island, named after the British relay station built here in 1864 for the first submarine telegraph cable between Britain and India. The water is shallow and clear with butterfly fish, groupers and vibrant coral just beneath the surface. Snorkeling gear and kayaks go in the water here.
01:00 PM — Lunch on Deck : As the dhow leaves Telegraph Island lunch comes out. Fried chicken, lentil curry, mixed vegetable curry, rice, Arabic bread, hummus and salad served fresh on deck. Soft drinks and water throughout.
02:00 PM — Seebi Island, Afternoon Swim
Seebi Island sits at the far end of Khor Sham and the water around it is some of the clearest on the entire route. Coral reefs run close to the surface and the fish here are noticeably more colourful than anywhere else the dhow stopped today. Most guests who said they were done snorkeling at Telegraph Island find themselves back in the water within minutes of the anchor dropping.
02:30 PM — Return Journey to Khasab Port
The dhow turns back toward Khasab port. The fjord looks different on the way out than it did coming in. The light has shifted, the cliffs catch it differently and the boat moves with the current rather than against it.
04:00 PM — Arrive Back at Khasab Port
The dhow docks at Khasab port as the afternoon light settles over the mountains. Six hours on the water, two islands, dolphins, lunch on deck and the kind of day that is difficult to describe to someone who wasn’t there.
Frequently asked questions
What time does the dhow depart and where is the port?
The dhow departs at 10:00 AM. Be dockside by 09:30 AM. The crew serves Arabic coffee, tea and fresh fruits while the boat prepares to leave. Late arrivals may miss the boat.
Where exactly is Khasab Dhow Port?
There are two ports in Khasab. Our dhows depart from Khasab Dhow Port, not the cruise ship terminal near Bassa Beach. We send a Google Maps link and full directions via WhatsApp the evening before departure. There is free parking available at Khasab Dhow Port.
Can I cross the Oman border in a rented, financed or borrowed car?
No. Rented cars, vehicles under bank finance and borrowed vehicles cannot cross into Oman without a notarised NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the court. If your vehicle falls into one of these categories arrange the NOC before travel or come in a privately owned vehicle. If you need transport from Dubai we can arrange this separately. WhatsApp us before booking if you are unsure.
Is this tour suitable for non-swimmers and children?
Yes. Life jackets are on board for all water activities and nobody needs to swim or snorkel to enjoy the cruise. The dhow has shaded seating on deck throughout the day. Children enjoy the dolphins and the fjord scenery as much as the water. Let us know the ages of any children at the time of booking.
What food and refreshments are included?
Arabic coffee, tea, fresh fruits and soft drinks are served from the moment you board. Lunch comes out on deck between Telegraph Island and Seebi Island. The menu includes fried chicken, lentil curry, mixed vegetable curry, rice, Arabic bread, green salad and unlimited soft drinks and water throughout the day.
What happens if weather or sea conditions are unsafe?
Your safety comes first. If sea conditions are unsafe we cancel the tour and notify all guests by WhatsApp as early as possible. You receive a full refund within 7 days or the option to reschedule to any available date at no extra charge.
What is the cancellation and deposit policy?
A 50% deposit is required to confirm your booking. Cancellations made 48 hours or more before departure receive a full refund within 7 days. Cancellations within 48 hours of departure are non-refundable and the deposit cannot be used toward a future booking.
